Budget Documents

Gothenburg Public Schools will be hosting a Budget Q&A on Monday, September 11th at 11AM for anyone interested in asking questions about the proposed budget documents.  Additionally, Dr. Jonas has put together a Budget Handbook that is available by clicking here.

If you'd like to visit with Dr. Jonas prior to the Q&A please reach out to her at allison.jonas@goswedes.org or call 308-537-3651 ext. 9.

The proposed tax request will lower our levy by $0.06.  This is possible because the Nebraska State Legislature passed a school funding package that has updated how school funding is allocated for the 2023-2024 school year.  Gothenburg Public Schools will receive $561,566 more in State Aid than it did in 2022-2023.  Back in February, we approved an employment package that increased our expenses by $510,586.  In addition, our overall expenses have increased due to the impact of inflation for an overall increase in expenses totaling $713,725.  The timing of these legislative changes are incredibly beneficial for our taxpayers.  Instead of having to raise property taxes to cover every dollar of increased expenses, we are able to use the increased revenue from the state to offset these increased expenses as a benefit to our taxpayers represented by a nominal $200,000 increase in tax request and a  $0.06 decrease on our levy.
