First, a reminder to parents: all drinking water must be bottled water. If possible, please send your child with bottled water. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have received enough donations to ensure we can provide bottled water for all students. We are deeply grateful for this outpouring of support.
Our safety protocol has been carefully developed with guidance from the Two Rivers Health Department, Gothenburg Health, Lunchtime Solutions, and our legal counsel. While it may not be perfect, we believe it is the best approach at this time. Our safety measures include:
Water Fountains: All water fountains have been covered and will remain inaccessible until the water system is deemed safe. Once the “boil water” notice is lifted, we will flush the water fountains to ensure they are safe for use.
Handwashing: We are encouraging students to use tap water and soap for visible contaminants, followed by hand sanitizer to address E. coli concerns.
Lunchroom Closure: Unfortunately, the lunchroom will be closed at least through Friday, as it must be sanitized and flushed after receiving clearance from the city. We ask that parents please send a sack lunch with your child through at least Thursday. Milk will be available at no charge. If your child forgets or is unable to bring a lunch, we will have a small number of sack lunches available. They just need to inform their homeroom teacher.
Open Campus for High School Students: Students in grades 9 through 12 have the option to leave campus for lunch. We ask that parents discuss your expectations and any limitations of your child’s driver’s license with them.
Attendance: Attendance during this time is discretionary. If you’re not comfortable sending your child to school, you may call the office or text your child’s designated text line and request the absence be listed as "parent request." Please note that students will still be responsible for making up any missed work.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate this situation. We know it’s not ideal, but we are doing our best to keep school in session while prioritizing student safety.
