Congratulations to 2023 GHS graduate Ally Goad on her summer internship at the Robert Henri Museum & Art Gallery (RHM) in Cozad!
Ally credits her success and passion for the arts to her high school art teachers, Mrs. Jami Stortenbecker and Miss Samantha Janda, who played a significant role in shaping her journey and decision to pursue a career in the arts.
“With the assistance and support of Gothenburg Elementary Art Teacher and High School Graphic Design/Photography Instructor Jami Stortenbecker, I also applied to the Hastings College summer program for the arts: Open Space, which I believe was a main factor in my decision to attend Hastings College. I had the opportunity to meet the entire Fine Arts staff and I fell in love with the school,” Ally shared.
“When I returned from Open Space for my senior year at GHS, I was greeted by a brand new art teacher, Samantha Janda. Ms. Janda did an amazing job with her first year of teaching and was also a factor in my college decision-making process,” Ally explained.

We're thrilled to announce the School Counselor assignments for the 2024-2025 school year!
As we have shared previously, Mrs. Baker will be transitioning to the High School Counseling position, taking over for Mr. Jerry Wiggins, who retired in May. Mrs. Baker's dedication and experience make her a perfect fit for this role.
We are also delighted to welcome Mrs. Wendy Bartels to our counseling team! Mrs. Bartels, a distinguished 2nd grade teacher in our district for many years, brings her immense passion for student success to her new role. She will be working with Kindergarten and 1st graders and serving as the Safe Schools Coordinator. With her extensive experience on the Crisis Team and the Quick Response Team, Mrs. Bartels is well-equipped to excel in these positions.
Our veteran team member, Ms. Michelle Stevens, will transition to the 6th through 8th grade School Counselor position, previously held by Mrs. Pam Glodowski, who also retired in May. With her background as a K-12 School Counselor in another district, Ms. Stevens is ready to make an immediate impact.
Mrs. Michelle Stienike, now in her second year as a School Counselor, will continue working with 3rd through 5th graders. Her unwavering commitment to student well-being is evident daily as she strives to meet their needs.
Additionally, all three elementary counselors will serve 2nd grade, each taking a classroom to ensure comprehensive support.
We are incredibly excited about our passionate counseling team and can't wait to see them in action!

The Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals has selected Mr. Seth Ryker
as the 2024 High School Principal of the Year! Congratulations Mr. Ryker! We are honored to have you invest your time and talents in our students, school, and community!
Starting June 3, FREE meals will be distributed to children ages 1-18 on the west side of the Gothenburg Fire Department. Those participating in this service will need to travel north on Avenue F to enter the pick up line. Distribution will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. This is a FREE opportunity to children ages 1-18.
On 5/20/24, the Dudley Elementary students gathered in the grand stands for a fun assembly anticipating the SLIMING of either the Dynamic Duo (Mr. Dowdy & Mr. Bazata) or Admin (Mrs. McKenna & Mrs. Floyd). For every growth point from Fall to Spring on their NWEA MAP reading and math tests, students earned a VOTE for who they wanted to see slimed. Students who grew 15 or more RIT points were recognized during this special gathering. The reveal of who was to be slimed didn't occur until the final moment which kept EVERYONE is suspense! The pictures will speak volumes with who received the SLIME! We are SO PROUD of our students and the hard work throughout the year!

Tunney aspires to become an Activities Director and recently had the opportunity to job shadow Mr. Mroczek. Additionally, we are proud to share that ten GHS graduates are planning to pursue careers in education next year! It always excites us when students show a passion for the educational field. The world truly needs outstanding educators!

It is the last day of school and we had two more kiddos meet the "1,000 Books Before The End of Kindergarten" Challenge. Congratulations to Harper H. and Athena S. along with their families. At this time, 30, 700 books have been read to our Gothenburg children!
We recently celebrated our Swede Academy Preschool students at their graduation ceremony in the PAC along with their families! Such a special day for them to share a few songs and a few of their favorites. Wow, have they grown this year! A huge shoutout to Mrs. Bell for being an amazing educator in the lives of our little ones!

Please join us in celebrating Mrs. Vickie Keiser's well-deserved retirement from Gothenburg Public Schools! 🎉 Mrs. Keiser graduated from Syracuse High School, earned two degrees from UNL (graduating with her bachelor's degree in just 3 1/2 years!), and has been a pillar of commitment and dedication to Gothenburg Public Schools for 41 years... teaching just about every business class imaginable!!! She has also coached, served as a sponsor for many different organizations, and developed the first school website. When reflecting on her teaching career she says she is most thankful for those extra special moments when a student returned (after graduating) to tell her "thanks" for teaching them so many of the skills they needed for the "real world" (resume writing, understanding and problem-solving computer issues, etc.). Mrs. Keiser is pictured here with her Swede Foundations class. They threw her a SuRpRiSe party today to celebrate her retirement! Congratulations, Mrs. Keiser! 🌟👏

Parker Graves was honored at the May School Board meeting for his outstanding achievement as the 2024 Class B State Speech Champion in Serious Prose. Congratulations Parker!
The parking lot at the Impact Center across the street from the school is not a public street. It is still an active construction site, so for your safety and the safety of the workers please do not use that parking lot to get around the road construction.
Today our Swede Branch Flatwater Bank tellers attended "Stellar Teller" day in Kearney on the UNK Campus. They joined students from other schools and had the opportunity to learn about financial literacy from Julia Cook, author of "I Am Money"!
Students received a special certificate for being a teller during the 2023-2024 school year as well as a copy of the book "I Am Money"! They also enjoyed a special lunch at Pizza Ranch (compliments of Flatwater Bank).
A big THANK YOU to Flatwater Bank employees for bringing this initiative to our school. Our students had the opportunity to build their leadership skills serving as tellers. Additionally, our Dudley Elementary students had the opportunity to open a savings account and learn about the importance of saving their money. Looking forward to continuing this program next school year and seeing our student's finances GROW!
